Harry Redknapp and Jermain Defoe have already worked together after Redknapp signed the English forward for Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspurs and it has now been revealed that Red knapp is interested in signing Defoe once again.
“He’s a player we’d be interested in but it depends on the expense of the deal. Nothing is anywhere near being concluded. We tried to get him before the deadline but I don’t think there’s been any movement on that one’’
“I’m a big fan of Jermain. I’ve signed him enough times. He’s a goal-scorer and a player you’d obviously like at your club if possible, but the figures would have to be right. I haven’t spoken to the chairman about it yet. We’ll see. I know what we need.” That was a statement released by the head coach of Queens Park Rangers, Harry Redknapp as he unveiled his interest in signing Jermain Defoe from the MLS side Toronto FC.
Jermain Defoe has not managed to attract the attention of England’s Roy Hodgson as Defoe was overlooked by Hodgson who did not include Defoe in his list of players for the 2014 World Cup but despite not playing an important role for England, Redknapp is confident that Defoe can add quality to his squad at Queens Park Rangers.
The President and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Tim Leiweke stated that in order for any other club to sign Jermain Defoe, they will have to dig deep in their pockets and even if a proper offer is launched to sign the English forward, Leiweke and his team have already outlined a list of possible players to sign if Defoe does indeed leave Toronto FC.
“We know where we are going. If we have a DP (designated player) slot open, we already know who we’re going after. And I am 100 per cent convinced we’re going to be a better team on the pitch next year without a lot of changes’’ Tim Leiweke said.
