Didier Drogba and Jose Mourinho both had their wishes come true after the last 16 teams of the Champions League knew which opponents the clubs had to face and Galatasaray was picked out against the Premier League side Chelsea.
Drogba and Mourinho worked and played together in Chelsea and the Ivorian forward is excited to play with his former club.
‘’What a draw. I’m the luckiest man in the Champions League. I’ll play both games at home. See you in a few months!’’ Said Drogba.
The 35 years old former Chelsea forward is excited to reunite with Chelsea but the same level of excitement cannot be said for the head chiefs of Galatasaray as they know just what the Premier League is able to accomplish and according to the chief executive of Galatasaray Lufti Anbogan, Chelsea was one of the last teams he wanted to be paired up to play against with.
‘’Chelsea were one of the teams we wanted to draw. There were some other sides we didn’t really want, like Barcelona and Bayern München – they were on the blacklist. It will be a colorful match. Chelsea is Drogba’s old club and José Mourinho will face Galatasaray again with his new team. Those are nice coincidences’’.
Not too long ago Drogba praised Jose Mourinho as he said that it was the Portuguese tactician who made him one of the greatest forwards in the world when they played together in Chelsea.
“He said ‘If you want to be a great forward like Thierry Henry or Ruud van Nistelrooy, you have to come and play with me in England, at Chelsea’.
“It’s true I was a good player in the French league at the time but he made me one of the best in Europe. That’s why I, for Jose, was capable of going to the ends of the earth.”
Chelsea will battle it out against Galatasaray when they play their 1st leg on February 26, 2014.
