Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said that Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku will become one of the best in the world under the stewardship of José Mourinho. Lukaku has often been compared with Drogba, who is a Chelsea legend, because of several similarities starting with the physical structure. Drogba became one of the best in the world during his time at Chelsea. He became the first African player to score more than 100 goals in the Premier league, while he has scored more than 150 for Chelsea. Lukaku will be one of the strikers competing for the starting place at Chelsea.
Fernando Torres and Demba Ba will be his competition. Despite being only 20 years of age, Drogba has backed Lukaku to do well at Chelsea in the coming season. There is a lot of expectation from the youngster who joined the club two years ago for around £ 18 million. He scored 17 goals in the league alone for West Brom last season. There were a number of clubs ready to sign him, but Lukaku moved to Chelsea in order to become the next Drogba. After six months in China, Drogba is once again back in European football with Turkish club Galatasaray.
“With Jose Mourinho, [Lukaku] will really move forward. It is about taking confidence in a young player. He is the future of the club. He has confidence in him, and [Lukaku] proved himself last season. I know that next season will be a great one for him,” said Drogba in an interview given to a radio station recently. Chelsea manager José Mourinho recently hinted that Drogba might return to the club in the future. Even if he returns, it is highly unlikely that he will be doing it as a player because the 35-year-old is close to retiring.
