Chelsea’s opening Premier League match of the season kicked off in a surprising fashion as they conceded an early goal when battling against the recently promoted team Burnley but it only took the team of Jose Mourinho a few more minutes before they could click into gear and blast 3 goals into the net of Burnley’s goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
From there on out Chelsea started dominating the match as they seemed to be more comfortable in the pitch and during the last few minutes of the game, Didier Drogba made his return to the Premier League as he entered the pitch at the at the 84th minute.
Even though the Ivorian forward failed on scoring or making any kind of significant impact in a match that was already secured by Chelsea, when Drogba entered the pitch he was received with ovation and applauses from fans in the stadium.
Ever since Didier Drogba left Stamford Bridge, the Brazilian midfielder Oscar was given the No. 11 jersey but now that Drogba has made his return to Chelsea the jersey was returned to the veteran forward meanwhile Oscar was given the No. 8 jersey which was previously worn by Frank Lampard.
Oscar told Chelsea’s official website: ‘’Didier is a Chelsea legend and a senior player. I am happy for him to take the 11 and for me to take the 8. Lamps is another legend at this club and I hope I will be as successful in the shirt as he was’’
Drogba later used the social media to express his gratitude towards Oscar for giving him the jersey he wore for the Premier League club some years ago.
Drogba said: ‘’I am very pleased to be able to return to the number 11 shirt and I am very grateful to Oscar for allowing me to make this change’’
